There was widespread revolt at Fluminense after their 1-0 defeat against LDU on Thursday at Casa Blanca in the first leg of the South American Recopa. Normally reserved, Fábio was one of many to criticize Colombian referee Andrés Rojas. The goalkeeper felt that the referee’s performance was biased in favor of the home team.

Despite the loss, experienced goalkeeper Fábio is not giving up. He believes in Fluminense’s ability to bounce back in the second leg at home next Thursday. He has confidence that they will still win the title.

‘We were aware of the difficulties of playing at high altitude. We had possession of the ball and created some chances. I haven’t seen the incident yet where he went to VAR to check the penalty. He took ages trying to find a goal for them. Our team did not back down, we attacked when we could and defended when we had to. But we will continue working and have faith that the second leg will go well. With the support of our fans and in the name of Jesus, we will achieve the result and the title we desire,’ he told ESPN.
