Flamengo and Botafogo are currently facing each other at Maracanã in the 7th round of the Campeonato Carioca. What is catching attention, however, is the number of young players from their youth academies on the field, amongst the starters. There are five in total, considering both teams.
For Flamengo, left-back Ayrton Lucas, midfielder Gerson, and center-forward Pedro, all products of Fluminense’s youth academy, are making an impact. On the other hand, Botafogo’s representatives are midfielder Marlon Freitas and striker Luiz Henrique, who is making his debut.
As there are still upcoming matches against both rivals, Fluminense will soon have a reunion with these players who were nurtured in their youth categories. The Tricolor is currently leading the Campeonato Carioca with 14 points and could reach 17 if they defeat Sampaio Corrêa this Thursday.
